Who was the shooter at the end of season 5?

The final season of Top Boy is here. The fifth series of the hit crime drama dropped on Netflix on 7th September, and if you're anything like us, you've already binge-watched it all and have one major question, who killed Sully in the final scene?

Just when we thought it was all over and thought Sully was crowned the top boy of London, the series finale left us in complete shock and we have so many questions! So, we've broken down all the theories of who the gunman was in the final episode of Top Boy.

Warning, major spoilers below!

Who shot Sully in Top Boy?

In case you need a reminder, in the final scene of Top Boy, Sully (Kane Robinson) is sat in his car after a confrontation with Stefan (Araloyin Oshunremi), who threatened to shoot him, but decided to walk away. As Sully is sat in his car and has a last laugh, he is unexpectedly shot and murdered. So, who killed Sully?

Did Stefan kill Sully?

Netflix

After Sully killed Stefan's brother, Jamie (Micheal Ward) in season four (we're still in shock!), leaving Stefan in a care home and taking away the only father figure he's had, Stefan has a good reason to want Sully dead. Plus, he told Erin earlier in the series that Sully should pay for his actions.

But, in the previous scene, Stefan confronts Sully with a gun and has every chance to shoot him, but ultimately decides not to and tells Sully that he's not worth it. Plus, the killer is wearing different clothes to Stefan, so we don't think Stefan is the shooter.

Did Jaq kill Sully?

After Jaq stole Sully's drugs, she asked for forgiveness and begged for him to leave her family alone, but he told her that she would not get a pass. Sully also ordered for Junior to kill Jaq's best friend, Kieron, so it's understandable if Jaq killed Sully in revenge or for protection for her, Becks and her nephew.

But, after Becks pleads with Jaq to leave drug dealing behind, she seems to agree and we see her at home with Becks after she's jumped by Dushane and meets with Sully. Yet, some fans think that the jacket the shooter wears looks like hers so Jaq could be Sully's killer.

Did Erin and Mandy kill Sully?

Taking you back to season three, Sully killed Dris who was Mandy's partner and Erin's dad. Then, in season five, Erin and Stefan start dating and they discuss how Sully should be held accountable for his actions.

So, while we don't think the killer is Erin or Mandy themselves due to how they looked from the brief clip, maybe they hired a hitman to take revenge for the murder of Dris?

Did the Irish gangsters kill Sully?

Netflix

After Sully and Dushane killed Irish gangsters Jonny and Tadgh, played by Barry Keoghan and Brian Gleeson, earlier in the season, he must have made some major enemies. The gangsters may have had multiple hitmen on hand, so, the Irish gangsters could have killed Sully.

Did Si kill Sully?

Netflix

Sully accused Si of stealing his drugs and chokes him with a gun in episode five in front of his friends, causing him to throw up (that scene was so hard to watch!).

Plus, Si and Sully are from rival gangs and after being humiliated like that, he definitely has motive to want Sully dead so Si could be the shooter.

Did a stranger kill Sully?

This is the most likely theory. After making so many enemies over the past five seasons, from the Irish gangsters to the loved ones of all of the people he has murdered, we believe a Sully’s killer was left open intentionally to show how many people he has wronged to become the ‘top boy’ of London.

Now, director of the final episode, William Stefan Smith, has confirmed this theory. In a interview with Netflix, he said: "The idea of not showing the killer, for me, the reason was it could be anyone because Sully is a person that has so [many] enemies.

"The idea that one of these enemies came and shot him, for me, demonstrates what life can be like on the roads."

Top Boy is streaming on Netflix now.
