Time to Analyze Taylor Swift's Lyrics in "The Alcott"

Babe, wake up, Taylor Swift dropped a new song last night and the time has come to analyze all the lyrics. The song in question is actually a collab with The National called “The Alcott,” which Tay sings as a duet with Matt Berninger.
Matt said in a press release that the song is a “contained moment and narrative between two people” meeting at a place where they “used to hang out.” He also made it clear that Tay “wrote all her stuff as a response to me and very much from the perspective of my wife, who I was writing about.”
In other words, the lyrics are *not* about Taylor’s ex Joe Alwyn—even though there’s definitely a lot to read into! Specifically the chorus, ahem:
It’s the last thing you wanted(Tell me, which side are you on, dear?)
It’s the first thing you do
(Give me some tips to forget you)
You tell me your problems
(Have I become one of your problems?)
And I tell you the truth
(Could it be easy this once?)
It’s the last thing you wanted
(Everything that’s mine is a land mine)
It’s the first thing I do
(Did my love aid and abet you?)
I tell you that I think I’m fallin’
Back in love with you
Obviously, everyone needs to immediately call out sick from work and take the day to analyze these lyrics in full, so here ya go:
