The true story behind Netflix's 2 Hearts

Netflix just dropped a new romance film, 2 Hearts, and it’s time to get the tissues ready because this one is a tearjerker.

The movie follows two couples – Christopher and Sam played by Euphoria's Jacob Elordi and Tiera Skovbye and Jorge and Leslie played by Adam Canto and Radha Mitchell – whose parallel romances decades apart are forced together by a twist of fate.

Aside from the love, romance and tears, viewers may be interested to know that the film is actually based on a true story! So, here are the real-life events that inspired Netflix’s 2 Hearts.

The true story of Netflix's 2 Hearts

The story is based on the lives of Jorge Bacardi and Christopher Gregory, inspired by a book written by Chris' father, Eric, titled All My Tomorrows: A Story of Tragedy, Transplant and Hope.

You might recognise Jorge’s last name, BTW, as his family own alcohol brand Bacardi! But this isn’t mentioned in the movie.

Back to the real-life story, Chris tragically passed away from a brain aneurysm aged 19. In the film, he married Sam and they had a child, but this didn’t happen in real life. His organs were later donated to five different people, including Jorge, who had a life-threatening disease called primary ciliary dyskinesia.

Jorge underwent a double lung transplant thanks to Chris, and inspired by the selfless act of kindness, he went on to create the Gabriel House of Care, a non-profit that supports those awaiting transplants.

Thanks to Christopher’s donation, Jorge lived until he was 76-years-old and he and his wife Leslie were involved in the making of the film, before he sadly passed away in just prior to its initial release three years ago.

2 Hearts is streaming on Netflix now.
