House of the Dragon season two just turned up the dial with 'The Red Dragon And The Gold', which saw Aemond and Rhaenys come head-to-head on their dragons, Vhagar and Meleys. And while the episode left us with questions over what happened to Aegon, we're also wondering if - and how - Aemond's dragon Vhagar ever dies.

Wow. Did anyone else need a breather after that episode? The battle between Green and Black is quickly coming to a head, with Aegon, Aemond and Rhaenys arriving at the Rook's Rest on their dragons, as Ser Criston Cole's army continues to wage war.

During the tense battle, Meleys takes out Aegon and his dragon Sunfyre, before she is attacked by Aemond's dragon Vhagar. And by 'attacked', we mean her head is ripped from her body while she's mid-air, killing both Meleys and Rhaenys. But what ever happens to Vhagar?

Vhagar, the biggest of the dragons, was originally ridden by Visenya Targaryen, the older sister and wife of King Aegon I Targaryen. When she died, Aemond Targaryen took control of the dragon when he was just a little boy.

Does Vhagar die in House of the Dragon? How?

As fans of the Game of Thrones franchise will know, the series and prequel is based on a series of books by George R. R. Martin, Dance of the Dragons. In Fire & Blood, there's a battle near Harrenhal above the God's Eye Lake between Aemond and Vhagar and Daemon Targaryen, riding his dragon Caraxes.

After 13 days of Daemon waiting, Aemond finally shows up, chaining himself to his dragon. During the battle, Caraxes grabs Vhagar by the neck, and the dragons essentially rip each other apart, while Daemon also attemps to kill Aemond with a sword. The dragons crash into the water below,

It's not clear whether House of the Dragon will cover Vhagar's death, or which season it will be in, but given the battle features two of the main characters, it's not likely to be any time soon.
