Death Comes To Pemberley ending explained: Who killed Denny?
Calling all Bridgerton fans! We have your next period drama obsession, Death Comes To Pemberley. The three-part period drama series was originally released on the BBC in 2013, but has recently been added to Netflix, and is the unofficial sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
Starring an epic ensemble cast of British talent including Anna Maxwell Martin, Matthew Rhys, Jenna Coleman, Matthew Goode, Eleanor Tomlinson and James Norton, the series is based on P.D. James' novel of the same name, and sees us catching up with Elizabeth and Mr Darcy six years after their wedding.
The happy couple are busy preparing for a ball when Lydia arrives in hysterics (classic Lydia behaviour) to inform the pair Mr Wickham, and their travelling companion Captain Denny, argued and ran into the woods, where she heard two gun shots go off. Captain Denny and Wickham are recovered at the scene with Captain Denny discovered to be dead.
But did Mr Wickham actually kill him and how does the rest of the series end? Here's the full ending explained of Death Comes To Pemberley on Netflix.

Who killed Captain Denny in Death Comes To Pemberley?
Following the discovery of Wickham in the woods, he is arrested for Denny's murder and awaiting trial.
Elizabeth becomes a quasi-detective and discovers Wickham had, unsurprisingly, seduced the Pemberley maid Louisa, using a different name and got her pregnant. Earlier in the series we saw Elizabeth visiting Louisa Bidwell, who lives on a cottage on the Pemberley grounds with her mother and brother Will, who is gravely ill.
Louisa attends Wickham's trial with Elizabeth where she identifies Wickham as the man who fathered her recently born child. While waiting in jail, Wickham confesses he did sleep with Louisa and enquires after her and the baby.
Elizabeth visits Louisa and her mother, and Louisa revealed on the morning of Denny's murder she had arranged to meet a woman called Eleanor (who is actually Wickham's sister Mrs Younge) to arrange the adoption of her son, however she decided to keep hold of the baby. She also revealed she saw Colonel Fitzwilliam, Mr Darcy's cousin, at the meeting to give over her baby.
The magistrate, Sir Selwyn Hardcastle, discovers Wickham fathered Louisa's child and therefore giving him more of a motive to kill Denny. It's not looking good for Wickham.

BBC
Mr Darcy sees Mrs Younge in the court room and chases after her, she confesses she is Wickham's sister and was desperate to meet his son and look after him as her own. Mr Darcy clearly detests her and the reason soon becomes evident as he confronts her about leading Georgiana astray and into Wickham's arms all those years ago. Mrs Younge tells Darcy, Fitzwilliam was the one who came to her and gave her the money to organise getting Louisa's baby. Fitzwilliam confessed to doing so by claiming he was protecting Darcy.
Back in court and Wickham's fate is sealed when the pub landlady Mrs Piggott confirms she saw Wickham and Denny arguing, he is then found guilty and sentenced to be hanged.
Upon hearing Wickham is to die, Mrs Younge runs out into the street and throws herself in front of a carriage, and dies.
However, it appears Wickham really wasn't responsible for Denny's death, as, after the trial Elizabeth visits Will, who is looking even more worse for wear, and he confesses to (sort of) killing Denny.
Will explained Denny came looking to the cottage looking for Louisa, and Will mistook him for Wickham. He attacked Denny and chased him into the woods, where Denny fell into a large ditch and hit his head on a stone. Wickham then arrived on the scene and found Denny dying, he took Denny's gun and fired two shots at Will, but missed him and Will fled the scene.
How does Death Come To Pemberley end?
Would it be a Jane Austen spin-off without a happy ending? After Will's confession Wickham is found innocent and thankfully he and Lydia depart Pemberley to embark on an adventure to the New World.
After Fitzwilliam and Darcy's argument, Georgiana is free to marry the lawyer Mr Henry Alveston, who she truly loves and the couple get engaged. Louisa gets to keep her child, and perhaps the best news of all? The series ends with Elizabeth telling Mr Darcy she's pregnant.
