Beef's Ali Wong opens up about Amy sex scene

Ali Wong, who plays Amy in Netflix's Beef, just opened up about *that* sex scene for her character with an older man.

The ten-part comedy drama follows two strangers, played by Ali and Steven Yeun, who become embroiled in a bitter, dangerous feud after an incident of serious road rage.

Ali’s character, Amy, goes on a journey of twists, turns and shocking moments throughout the series, as her feud with Danny gets worse, including cheating on her husband by having sex with a much older man.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Ali said the steamy scene actually shows Amy’s feelings of “shame.”

“It’s just that Amy has a lot of shame about… When she says in the finale, ‘I don’t want anybody to see me’ – you know, so many people desperately want to be seen, and she’s like, ‘Oh, no, I really don’t want people to see me’,” she explained.

“That’s one of those things that she doesn’t want people to see, you know? She’s done something she wouldn’t even tell a best friend, and probably wouldn’t write even in a journal because she’d be too scared of someone reading it and finding out. That’s why she has the blanket over her head.”

Ali added that Amy’s fears and shameful feelings even translates into her outfit choices. “She’s hiding. And even in her wardrobe – Amy would never wear something like this. Her wearing all of those creams and neutrals and whites, she’s hiding. That’s all part of it,” she said.

Another scene which caused some controversy among viewers saw Amy get hot and heavy with a shotgun, which Ali argued isn't all that wild.

“I wouldn’t even call it problematic,” she said. “I would just say it is what it is. But for her, she doesn’t feel comfortable with anybody seeing it, you know?”

Since its release, fans and critics have praised Beef as one of the best shows of the year, so if you haven’t seen it yet, what are you doing?

Beef is streaming on Netflix now.
